That is a great thing to get this huge improvement by software only.
The only concern is how long will the "old" device be supported ?
IMHO, leap motion is going the wrong way by making the device more complex, adding color camera, higher resolution etc...
they should (still) keep it simple, minimizing the ressource needed, and do what they do well.
We probably do not need another expensive device to stick on an expensive device.
Or they should forget about making the device, focuses on the software and use the intel realsense camera.
don't forget that apple purchased the Kinect 1 creator, Primesense and like oculus (who purchased NibleVR), there is no visible effect yet.
You can bet that if Leap motion give enough momentum to the thing, that Oculus (NimbleVR) and Apple (Primesense) and Intel (Realsens) will be prompt to jumb in the bandwagon, and i don't think Leap motion can afford a fight with these big shots.
The logical final consequence would be one of this three big guy purchasing leap motion.
it could even be possible the an Outsider (Google ?) came in. After all Google is already heavily involved in robotics and VR/AR.
