Hi everyone,
Today, we’ve rolled out the V2 skeletal tracking for public developer beta.
Since our launch last year, we’ve been listening to your feedback about the V1 software, and building out the next generation of tracking alongside an updated API. We released it in stages, slowly at first, so that we could identify the most serious issues with a smaller group.
Now, even though it’s still a beta (and a work in progress), we’re happy to share it with everyone. Since this is a core tracking update, you won’t see major updates to Airspace or consumer apps at this stage. Please jump into the visualizer to get a sense of the tracking improvements. With your feedback, we’ll be able to build on it and push towards the full V2 consumer release.
The Developer Portal now has an updated installer and SDK, which includes:
- Improved tracking of two-handed interactions
- Tracking can now distinguish between finger types (e.g. index finger versus ring finger)
- Finger IDs are persistent
- Tracking confidence is exposed (view in the visualizer by pressing k)
- New Bone API with joint tracking
- Some new gestures including pinch and grab
- A new examples gallery, including new demos like "Ragdoll Thrower" and rigged hands for Unity and LeapJS
- Top-down tracking mode – now available in the Control Panel for better head-mounted and inverted tracking
- Updated API docs
-
Latest changes and known issues – this is still a work in-progress
To all the early beta testers: You’re awesome. Every bit of feedback, feature request, and bug spotted has gone towards making V2 skeletal tracking better. Now that the beta is open to the wider Leap Motion developer community, we’re excited to continue working towards the V2 consumer launch together. (We’ve also released a new build today, so be sure to check out the changelog and download the latest version.)
We always love to hear your feedback about our beta releases, and this is definitely no exception. The Beta category here in the Community Forums is the place to discuss the new tracking capabilities.
Let’s get started!
Thanks,
-Dan
