UPDATE: Assets for Oculus v0.4.4 are now available! You can find assets for both 0.4.4 and 0.4.3 on our Unity downloads page.
Hi everyone,
We’ve just released an important Unity asset update featuring a crucial bug fix that should significantly improve how people experience your VR apps.
After hearing reports of issues with Unity apps using VR tracking, we discovered a bug that sometimes shuts off HMD mode on Windows 7 and 8. This means that users experience less-than-optimal tracking, which can be easily mistaken for other VR issues, like background interference. This issue can be resolved by importing the latest Unity assets into your project, overwriting the old ones.
Besides applying the new assets, we also recommend building in DirectToRift, due to issues we’ve seen related to extended mode. Here are the links to our latest assets for Oculus v0.4.4:
Note: The current assets are designed to work with Oculus v0.4.3.1. While we’re currently testing support for Thursday’s v0.4.4 beta release, please bear in mind that the Oculus software is still in unstable developer beta. As a result, we recommend that you develop with (or roll back to) v0.4.3.1.
Update: Assets are now available for Oculus v0.4.3.1 and v0.4.4. To find either set of assets, go to https://developer.leapmotion.com/downloads/unity
If you modified the core assets, please follow the steps below to replace specific files.
UNITY PRO. Download the new core assets and import the following:
- Plugins/
- OVR/
- LeapMotion/Resources/
- LeapMotion/Scripts/HandController.cs
- LeapMotion/Scripts/LeapImageRetriever.cs
UNITY FREE. Unzip the core assets (download here) and overwrite the following:
- All plugins in the root folder – Leap.dll, LeapCSharp.dll, libLeap.dylib, libLeapCSharp.dylib, and (where applicable) SystemWipeRecognizerDll
- OVR/
- Assets/LeapCSharp.NET3.5.dll
- Assets/LeapMotion/Resources/
- Assets/LeapMotion/Scripts/HandController.cs
- Assets/LeapMotion/Scripts/LeapImageRetriever.cs
As is often the case, community feedback proved crucial in finding and squashing this bug, allowing for improved user experiences across all VR apps. A sincere thanks to everyone who reported problems – as always, we greatly appreciate hearing from you.
It's also worth noting that this issue also affects Unity VR examples on our developer gallery that contain the old assets, which have been temporarily removed. They will be restored to the gallery once they're recompiled
