I want to implement a form of hovering mechanic by placing the Leap Motion in front of a monitor. For example showing tooltips about items on the screen when you point your finger on them.
To extend the reach of the Leap Motion I tried to place it und the monitor and tilted towards the user ( see picture for reference).
The obvious problem (which I tried to illustrate) is, that the finger.tip_position output gives wrong coordinates.
For example if you move your finger from the bottom to the top of the screen in a straight line, the z coordinate will grow, of course.
Now i need a way to calculate the distance from the finger to the screen instead of the distance of the finger to the axis.
I could not find a way to solve this for several days now and thought one of you may have tried something similar before?
