For users on Debian (or Ubuntu without upstart) this is quickest way to install updates. Assuming you have your update in /tmp/LeapUpdate.tar.gz, save my patch to /tmp/do_not_assume_upstart_is_installed.diff and then run:
cd /tmp &&
rm -rf Leap*Linux && tar -xzf LeapUpdate.tar.gz && cd Leap*Linux &&
mkdir Leap-1.0.9+8411-x64 && cd Leap-1.0.9+8411-x64 &&
ar x ../Leap-1.0.9+8411-x64.deb &&
mkdir control && cd control && tar -xzf ../control.tar.gz &&
patch -p1 < /tmp/do_not_assume_upstart_is_installed.diff &&
rm ../control.tar.gz && tar -czf ../control.tar.gz * && cd .. && rm -rf control &&
ar r ../Leap-x64.deb debian-binary control.tar.gz data.tar.gz && cd .. && rm -rf Leap &&
sudo dpkg -i Leap-x64.deb
This will work with manually downloaded Linux package too, just move it to LeapUpdate.tar.gz (or /tmp/LeapUpdate.tar if original had .tar extension - in this case use -xf instead of -xzf).
