Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your controller. Could you please check the following:

Does the LED on the side of the device turn on when you plug the controller in?
What color is the Leap Motion Control Panel icon in your system tray?
What does the text say when you hover your mouse cursor over the Leap Motion Control Panel icon?
What Leap Motion software version do you have installed?

If the LED on the side is black, there may have been an issue during the initial firmware update. Try downloading and running the firmware reset tool from here to see if that resolves the issue for you:
https://leapmotion.box.com/s/p5t23n0uqpxynevhgbx9h7u1swbh3h45228

If the text from the tray icon mentions the service not running, follow the instructions here to restart the service manually:

-the led shos up as green
-the color of the icon on the tray is black
-the text says "Leap Motion Controller is off"
-the software i installed was LeapDeveloperKit_3.2.1+45911_win

-the led shos up as green
-the color of the icon on the tray is black
-the text says "Leap Motion Controller is off"
-the software i installed was LeapDeveloperKit_3.2.1+45911_win

What happens if you right click on the tray icon and select "resume tracking"?

Try opening the software log from the Leap Motion Control Panel and post the contents here so I can take a look

Does the controller show up in your Windows device manager under imaging devices and beep when you plug/unplug it from the computer?

the software log is just this:
[16:16:13] [Info] Connected to Leap Service

and it doesnt show up as an imaging device, it shows under "other devices"
and ive never heard it beep

Is the controller plugged in directly to your computer or is it going through a USB hub of some sort?

Try using another cable/port to see if that resolves the issue for you.

Another thing you can try is running dpinst64 located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Leap Motion\Core Services\Drivers

tryed moving to another usb port. didnt work. tryed installing via dpinst64.exe and i get this message

Can you try right clicking on the controller and try uninstalling the drivers, then unplug and replug the controller back in to see if that works?

Do you have access to another computer to see if you run into the same issue?

just tryed to uninstall and re plug. didnt fix it. i dont have another computer to test it on

Does the icon in the device manager show any errors or exclamation marks on it or does it look normal?

Could you open up the device manager again and check the Hardware ID of the controller by going to Properties -> Details -> Hardware ID's and let me know what you see there?

Thanks for the screenshot. Are you able to manually update the device driver using cyfx3.inf located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Leap Motion\Core Services\Drivers , by right clicking the controller in the device manager -> select to install driver -> Select Device -> "Have disk..." etc.

Hopefully not. Could you try unplugging the device, rebooting, then running dpinst64.exe again and see if you still run into the installation error?

If you're able to get that installed with the controller unplugged, try plugging the controller back in and see if that worked for you

I'm running into a similar problem but I can't find a dpinst64.exe anywhere.

These are the available drivers?

This is how Windows finds the device

This is the message I get when I try using any of the available options to "update" the driver

This is my log:

[00:28:09] [Info] WebSocket server started
[00:28:11] [Info] Secure WebSocket server started
[00:28:22] [Info] Connected to Leap Service

Light on the device is green, on the tray is black. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software, nothing.

Tried the steps according to your troubleshooting guide here: https://support.leapmotion.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004321178-Troubleshooting-Guide20
but got stuck on 7. Choose dpinst(x86) or dpinst64. as I can't find these.

Are they available somewhere for download?

It shouldn't be this hard to use the device, I'm already a few hours in and nothing.

For others reaching the same point, please go to:

and follow the steps there. I honestly do not know why this isn't made even more apparent.

A good suggestion ParanomalPatrol

I will link our troubleshooting guide to our Fall Creators help article22 for this issue to make it clearer.

We recently updated our setup page33 as well to notify people of the need for the Fall Creators hotfix if they are running V2 software.
